Students identify the theme of a text and support the theme with evidence with these reading pennant activities. They are perfect for reviewing theme and provide you with a festive April or Easter bulletin board display.
Once the pennant is complete, students can color them and cut them out. You can staple them to a bulletin board or hang them on a string across the room to display their work and creativity.
The reading pennants include three differentiated versions of the graphic organizer and four different characters to choose from.
Level 1: Students determine the theme, explain how they know what the theme is, and explain what the characters learn.
Level 2: Students determine the big idea or topic, explain what the character did or said to demonstrate the big idea, and then identify the theme.
Level 3: Students determine the theme and then explain how the author communicates the theme through words, phrases, plot elements, and characterization.
